Welcome to Our Class!

Welcome From the Teacher

Hello and welcome to 5th grade English Language Arts, Gators!! I am so excited to work with each of you and to see what this year has in store. This year, I plan to integrate activities into each lesson, so all of the students will be able to get up, stretch, and move around while learning. I will be pairing with Mr. Michael Holland, the 5th grade math teacher this year.

Reward Systems

During the week, the students will receive tickets for promising behaviors. Each Friday, the students will have the option to use their earned tickets to buy something from the treasure box, or save their tickets up for a larger prize.

Each week, one student who has worked hard, followed the classroom expectations, turned in his/her work on time, etc. will be named V.I.P. Student of the Week. The V.I.P. Student of the Week will have the privilege of choosing where he/she would like to sit for the week, choosing a random classroom privilege, and he/she will be the first to choose their weekly classroom job.

Gradewide Disciplinary System

Each homeroom will bring a clipboard with a document attached to it during rotation each day. This document will allow each teacher to record any expectations that were broken by a student in their class. This will be done by the teacher writing a checkmark next to the name(s) of any students who did not follow the expectations of the teacher. Checkmarks will be reset weekly. Below are the consequences that follow each checkmark given. Checkmarks will be recorded after a verbal warning has been given.

1 checkmark- The student will receive a written warning from the teacher.

2 checkmarks- The student will receive silent lunch for one day.

3 checkmarks- The student will lose recess for one day.

4 checkmarks- The parent/guardian of the student will be contacted.
